The ‘MetaMorphosis’ Butterfly Exhibit at the Memphis Zoo emerges from its Cocoon.

After years of renovating and revamping, the butterfly exhibit has returned to the Memphis Zoo with a brand new look, feel, and experience. The aptly named ‘Metamorphosis: The Butterfly Effect’ dives into the captivating world of the butterfly by providing numerous educational opportunities and interaction points with our delicate, flying friends.

Viewers will learn about the butterfly’s lifecycle, how many kinds exist, and what we can do to help them flourish!

Of course, when working with a subject as beautiful as butterflies, you must have some genuinely jaw-dropping signage to accompany the exhibit. The first and one of the more impressive pieces of signage is the main exhibit sign. It comprises a direct-printed and painted backer piece with a custom, polycarbonate ‘MetaMorphosis’ logo. Surrounding the logo are fluttering butterflies mounted using an anti-graffiti laminate, keeping them safe from the elements and vandalism. Let’s go inside the exhibit to see where the signage inspiration takes us!

More butterflies are used to accentuate and draw attention to their custom directional signs.

As you enter the main exhibit, you are led to this rather impressive sign that is matched perfectly style-wise on the front and back. We have to hand it to the art department at the Memphis Zoo for all of this exceptional artwork!

These information boards were entertaining to produce and are treated with the anti-graffiti laminate, giving the Memphis Zoo peace of mind in knowing their investment is protected. We especially loved the board describing the Butterfly Effect in science and how the butterfly’s real-life effect on the global ecosystem!

Finally, boards describing the fascinating lifecycle of butterflies are established in the main breeding area, where thousands of butterflies are flying happily around you. The experience was inspiring, and we highly recommend that people of all ages check out this one-of-a-kind exhibit!
